Development is a process of equitable growth in society. Social inequality creates a situation in which the fruits of development go mainly in the hands of few sections of the society widening the gap of social inequality.
AGS works with the poor and marginalized sections of society with an aim to create an equitable society so that the fruits of development are shared with all sections irrespective of caste, creed, colour, religion and most importantly gender.
AGS as an organization started the task of bridging the gap of gender based social inequality so that both men and women could equally participate in the development activities and could have access and control over resources. AGS development programmes promote skill training, income generation and supportive activities to enable rural girls to achieve self-reliance.
For this Adi Gram Samiti is imparting vocational training in costume jewellery making and designing and tailoring, embroidery by opening vocational training centers in various villages of Mewat district in the state of Haryana and slums in Delhi. In these skill learning centers, girls are taught the art of making and designing costume jewellery with the use of various tools and raw material provided by the organization. Girls enrolled under tailoring vocational centres are taught the skill of cutting, stitching, designing and embroidery. Literacy and financial literacy(saving and crediting) is an essential feature of this programme in order to help these girls to become financially independent
The project proposes to make women, from economically and educationally backward section of society, empowered and self-reliant through programs of skill development and income generation.
